the lamia's mate

Illustration for 'An Episode of Cathedral History': my favourite ghost story by M.R. James.
An ancient cathedral in the fen country is being renovated. Those involved in the work witness a series of frightening 'visitations'.
Hidden in the tale is the implication that there are two ghosts. One has been trapped for centuries in the vault of a crusader knight. The other is her mate.
He waits for her in the woods.

Particularly lovely image.

Yes,
'Whistle and I'll Come to You."
There is a brilliant film adaption of it by Jonathan Miller.

Darkness and chill...

"Lamia" is still used in modern Greek to indicate a dangerous/ferocious woman.

Nor'easter of mood! How do you make little trees scary? What you left out of this picture made what you left in so strong. I kiss your night sapling.

Ahoy there, Cap'm Bill,
Thanks for catching the erotic twist.
The feeling of rising sexuality is the hallmark of this beautiful story.

Nightmares and ghost stories ... It's getting darker in Limboland even as it is getting brighter outside. I know what you mean though, I've had nightmares about the Easter bunny too.
Cheers.
