Blue Man

I've recently been doing development illustration on this animation feature project for writer, Bob Swain.
The story is set among the people of the Sahara desert.
Bob is now seeking further funding in Europe and elsewhere.
It's been sheer pleasure to work on this wonderful material and I hope we can continue in the near future.

the bull's head

Many years ago I went to hear the great JIMMY WITHERSPOON singin' and swingin' the blues at the Bull's Head pub in Richmond.

I've drawn him here - as I remember him - without looking at photos to remind me of his features.
I think he was with Dick Morrisey's group that saturday afternoon.

limboloism 2

As you can see, I have pasted Humbaba's pattern onto the musician/magician.

I love to draw musicians playing and the phallic guitar transfers from the snake...

Then... The desert of blues.

Suddenly, I began to think about a very tasty project I have been asked to work on.
So I drew a magician with a snake... Who is also Humbaba.

limboloism 1

I am sometimes asked about my working 'methods'.
You should read this from the bottom - up.
(Humans evolved from their feet upwards and the blogger creature seems to be schemed the same way, so:)

and Humbaba, monster of the labyrinth.

These tiles are supposed to be in the kitchen so, of course, I decided to illustrate the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Here you can see Gilgamesh,

I made plaster casts of a ceramic tile.
Then I drilled holes in 2 of them.
(As you can see, the rain dripped on one.)
